Emerging works of art from around the state of Indiana
|
Located adjacent to VSAI’s State office at the Harrison Center in the old-northside of Indianapolis, en ROUTE Gallery opened in 2003 as a venue to represent emerging and mid-career Indiana artists. It functions as a sales gallery as well for VSAI’s Urban Artisans. The gallery features paintings, mixed-media, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography and ceramics. As a member of the Indianapolis Downtown Artist and Dealers Association (IDADA), en ROUTE participates in the IDADA First Friday program and presents a new exhibit each month.

New Work: Sean Gray

|
Opening Friday, September 5th 6-9 p.m.
en ROUTE Gallery (in the Harrison Center)
1505 N. Delaware
This month’s featured artist is Sean Gray. Sean is an artist with autism that works in clay. His ceramic and sculptural pieces include traditional vases, ikebanas and mirrors. Sean recently spoke about his background and work - I was born with autism, a communication disorder. For years I was unable to understand what people were saying to me, and people could not understand what I was saying to them. It was frustrating. Sounds were very loud and painful to me, and I was unable to shut out the noise around me. It was all very distracting and chaotic. I was angry a lot of the time and did things to try to control the world around me. The things I did were mostly destructive. Through my art this has changed, I am able to create works of arts that others can enjoy… I especially like working with clay. Also in the gallery, Urban Artisans popular garden and ceramic ware will be on display for sale.
The exhibit opening is on Friday Sept 5th from 6-9 pm. The show will hang through Sept 24.
Gallery Hours - M-TH 11-4 -or by appointment. For more information, contact Emily Compton, enROUTE Gallery Director at VSA arts of Indiana at 317-974-4123, or email ecompton@vsai.org.
